5D 4N Jeju Island Spring 2019

We typically start our day at 9am and end our visit by 6pm. Our mode of transportation is driving. We rented a compact car and drove counter-clockwise around the Island. (Refer to earlier post for details of driving and car rentals in Jeju.)

Accommodation

On the first night, we stayed close to Jeju city because we arrived late. Second and Third Night, we stayed in Seongwipo airbnb. On the last night of our trip, we stayed in Seongsan. Our airbnb there is merely walking distance from Seongsan Illchubong. If you plan to do a sunrise hike, I would recommend the same place. I chose all airbnb with kitchen and cooking utensils.

On average, it costs us RM170 per night for a room for 2.

DAY 3

Mt Hallasan hike via SeongPanak Trail

This trail is one of the only two which goes all the way to the peak. The SeongPanak Trail head is only 20 minutes drive from Seongwipo. By the time we are done with the hike, we are too tired to do anything else. If you want to have more time to explore other places on the same day, I recommend going for shorter hikes at Mt Hallasan which does not reach the peak.

You are entitled for certificate if you reach the peak of Mt Hallasan. You need to have a photo proof of you at the peak to show at the information counter at the start of the trail head.

Recommended to start hiking at 8am. You will need to reach the check point latest by 12.30pm to be allowed to ascend the peak. Bring at least 2L of water because there is no water point along the trail. Even the toilets do not have running water. Bring enough food and snacks too as there is no shops along the trail nor at the peak.

New Wheels

I have used my perodua axia for 2 years plus and the three are due for change. The original three provided by Perodua are Silverstone. Based on my husband, Silverstone is one of the worst in the market in terms of performance. We got the price of Bridgestone tyre to be RM110. I decided to use Michelin to replace my front tyres this time as it is known popularly to be the best among the other brand. We got it at RM110 per tyre at a nearby workshop in Setiawangsa.

Wayyy overdue.

Cameron Highlands

The best thing about going to a place you’ve gone a hundred of times is you are no longer jakun to try to go to all the “must-visits”. So this time round, we spent our time here exploring less popular spots and chilling at our guest house.

We had a tasty brunch at Opah Strawberry with their mouth-watering Nasi lemak Strawberry and delicious pastries.

The strawberries in the sambal ikan bilis is strangely appetizing. It costs RM6 per plate of nasi lemak. The pastries are about RM4 each. They also sell my father in law’s favourite Strawberry Gelato.

imagine eating brunch with this background

Other than that, we also visited the infamous tea houses by Boh and Bharat tea.

Cameron Tea House in Brinchang is a pain to get there. The road is narrow and winding. LOTS of patience needed.

The Bharat Tea plantation in the background. Good luck finding a parking spot!

Last but not least, is this cozy eatery located in Taman Sedia named Tiny Boutique House.

Their specialty is oven-bricked pizza

And much needed latte

Pasta love!

The tiny boutique house also offers guesthouse for the tired travellers.

We also bought fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers from Kea Farm.

Cameron Highlands temperature was around 15 to 25 degrees throughout our stay there. Such a nice weather to snuggle all day.

Jeju Island (Driving)

Driving in Jeju Island is a little different than Malaysia because they drive on the right-hand side. This affects the rest of the traffic rules too but the logic is pretty similar.

Driving License

What you need to get international driving license at JPJ are

  1. A copy of driving license (valid for min of 1 year of driving)
  2. 1 passport sized photo of the driver with white background.
  3. A copy of driver’s IC
  4. RM150 fee.

We got our IDL done at UTC Damai and it was a quick transaction. They are open till late and also on saturdays.

The international driving license is valid for 1 year.

Car Rental in Jeju

I will be renting a car for 4 days to make it easier to move around. There are buses on the island and they cover most of the popular tourists attractions. However you will be subjected to follow their schedule.

We used rentalcars.com for the rate of RM115 per day. The rental transaction  was done online using a credit card. However, you will need to present your credit card when picking up the car for “deposit”. The deposit will be returned to you after the car is returned within 15 working days. To make it easier, it is better to have the main driver with the IDL to do the booking using his or her own credit card.

  1. International Driving License = RM150
  2. Car rental = RM 461
  3. Refill Fuel = RM 147 ( we only refilled the fuel when returning the car on our last day. By that time, the tank still have  1/8 left)

Total  spent is RM758

Our cute car!

Driving on the right side of the road is initially scary. My husband did all the driving and he managed to adapt to the system after an hour of driving. I think the most confusing part is that many of the roads intersections are not simple cross junction, but looks more like a star with 5 junctions. Speed limit is usually 60 km/hr and the GPS keep beeping everything we get above 50 km/hr. This being said, there are many speed trap camera strewn all over the island. And with such speed, it takes extra time for you to drive and get around. Our car comes with an in built GPS. Getting around is super convenient. Parking is mostly free. It’s really rare to see a place charging car parking. We didn’t have to pay for any parking tickets for the entire 5 days we were there.

Kia Morning is perfect for 2. It was just nice for us because we get to use our backseats to store more stuff. The trunk is pretty small and can only fit 1 luggage.

5 days in Jeju Island

We plan to spend 5 days 4 nights on Jeju island this Spring. We bought out return flight tickets for RM1415 per pax with pre-selected seats, meals and 20kg checked in luggage from AirAsia. The flight will be about 6 hours from KUL to CJU. It will be a direct flight to the island. I didn’t sign us up for any travelling packages because there were many feedbacks saying that Jeju is a tourist-friendly place to explore.

I have identified several attractions which is outdoor-centred and requires a bit of a drive. Most of the places are located in the south coast and east coast. I am not sure if it is all doable within 5 days, but I’ll list down everything!
